Boxed Corner Zipper Pouch

Zippers are awesome. Zippered pouches are something everyone can use!

Materials

Outer Fabric (2): 8" x 9"
Lining Fabric (2): 8" x 9"
Zipper tabs (2): 2" x 2.5"
9" zipper

Assemble Zipper Tabs

Take your two small pieces and fold them in half on the long side. Unfold and then fold up to the crease on both sides (wrong side up). Fold back in half and press. Trim about 1/4" off each zipper end and insert the zipper into the folded tab.

Top stitch to close the zip tab, back stitching to secure the zipper tape in the tab.

Trim off the excess so the tab is the same width as the zipper.

Attach Zipper

Take one outer piece, right side up, and place the zip right side down along the 9" side, so the tape is lined up with the top of the outer piece, leaving 1/4" on each side. Place a lining piece on top, lining everything up and pin or clip together.

Using a zipper foot, sew along the zipper starting and ending at 1/4" from the edge. Unfold and repeat the same process with the other outer and lining pieces.

Open completely and press to reveal the zipper. Top stitch along both sides of the zip.

Sew the Bag

Take the two outer pieces and place them right sides together and lining right sides together. Before you do this, make sure to open the zipper!

Pin or clip in place, and ensure the zipper is "folded" down toward the lining.

Sew around the bag using 1/4" seam and leave an opening in the bottom of the lining for turning.

Box the Corners

Using a clear ruler, I lined up the seam stitches to create a 1" box (which will result in a 2" boxed corner when done) on all 4 corners of the assembly (lining and outer).

Cut out the boxes.

Match up the seams and clip or pin the boxed corners together and sew at 1/4" (and zigzag to secure).

Using the opening in the bottom of the lining, turn it out and poke out the corners so they're nice and clean. Fold in the opening on the bottom of the lining and stitch it shut. Stuff the lining into the pouch and you're done!
